Emergency Response to Terrorism: Basic Concepts: Cost: $25 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 14)

This course is designed to provide students with a general understanding and recognition of terrorism, defensive considerations (biological, nuclear, incendiary, chemical and explosive), as well as command and control issues associated with criminal incidents.  When an incident occurs, the student will be able to recognize and implement self-protective measures; secure the scene; complete appropriate notifications to local, state and federal authorities; and assist in completing a smooth transition from emergency to recovery and termination operations.

Emergency Vehicle Operations Course: Cost: $30 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18)

Sadly, a large proportion of emergency responder deaths and injuries occur as a result of motor vehicle accidents involving emergency response vehicles. This course is suitable for both novice and veteran emergency vehicle operators. Consisting of 8 hours of classroom and 8 hours of driving on a competency course, it will teach, reinforce, and review those issues and skills needed by anyone who operates a motor vehicle in responding to an emergency.

Engine Company Operations: Cost: $40 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18)
A discussion of fire behavior and spread in structures, methods of calculating needed fire flow and organizing and equipping engine company is followed by a series of "hands on" drills involving various engine company evolutions.

Entry Level Intro to the Fire Service: Cost: $35 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 14) This course is designed to introduce new firefighters to basic information including an overview of the fire service, fire service organization, firefighter safety, personal protective equipment and terrorism awareness. This is the first of four courses in the curriculum.

Entry Level Fire Ground Support: Cost: $75 (48 Hours, Minimum Age: 14) This course is designed to introduce new firefighters to fireground operation including fire behavior, fire extinguishers, water supply, fire hose, ropes, and hazardous materials. This is the second of four courses in the curriculum.

Entry Level Interior Firefighter: Cost: $130 (60 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) This course is designed to introduce new firefighters to interior fireground operation including nozzles and streams, SCBA, rescue, ventilation, fire suppression, salvage, and firefighter survival. Fire Attack in Sprinklered Properties: Cost: $15 (6 Hours, Minimum Age: 14) This course gives an overview of how sprinkler systems are designed and constructed, why some large loss fires occur in spite of the presence of sprinklers, and how the fire department can minimize the change of such an occurrence.

Fire Police Review: Cost: $25 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) The intent of this program is to clarify some misunderstanding fire police officers have developed regarding their duties and responsibilities, to provide additional information to assist them in the performance of their duties and to bring into focus, materials and information gained during attendance and various training programs.

Flammable Liquids Fire Fighting: Cost: $75 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18) This course will introduce the student to basic fire chemistry, characteristics of flammable liquids, parameters of combustion, and extinguishment techniques using dry chemical, water, and foam on live flammable liquid fires.

Foam Firefighter Basic: Cost: $40 (7 Hours, Minimum Age: 14) Turnout Gear Needed for Class
A student in this course will be introduced to basic information concerning the use foam, as flammable liquid fire extinguishing agent. This module is targeted at the first responder, who will be faced with the task of fire suppression.

Foam Firefighter Technician: Cost: $75 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18)
A student in this course should be of the decision makers level who will be responsible for size-up and suppression. They will be introduced to basic information concerning the history of foam concentrates. They will receive the information to make the correct selection of foam concentrates based on the hazard, foam terminology, application rates and techniques, proportioning equipment and trouble shooting, and discharge devises associated with foam fire fighting.

Haz-Mat First Responder Awareness (RIHM): Cost: Free (4 Hours, Minimum Age: 16)

Seven tasks have been identified as part of a process for analyzing the hazardous material problem. This course focuses on the first four tasks in this process: 1.) Detecting the presence of hazardous materials 2.) Initiating command and control activities 3.) Surveying the hazardous material incident; and 4.) Collecting and interpreting hazard and response information. 5.) The tasks not addressed in this course are discussed in other courses. This course describes how each step is performed and then asks the participants to apply the concepts presented to a particular activity so that the participants can evaluate their mastery of the concept.

The Incident Safety Officer course is focused on the incident and the role the Safety Officer plays as part of the Command Staff. The target audience is Company Officers whom are experienced in firefighter safety issues and are familiar with an Incident Command System, hazardous materials management, and related emergency operations. The program provides the student with the decision-making process and skills required to recognize unsafe acts and conditions and take appropriate corrective actions.

Introduction to Vol. Emergency Services Management: Cost: $25 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 14)

This course is designed for those individuals whose responsibility is to manage any of the facets of a volunteer emergency services organization. New administrative and line officers with less than one year of experience will derive the most from this program. Seasoned organizational officers will hone their knowledge and basic skills as a manager. Introduction to Volunteer Emergency Services Management demonstrates the basic management techniques needed to effectively administer a volunteer emergency service organization. Participants will explore the transition a member has to make when they step into the role of management in their organization. Through the use of small group activities, the participants will learn and apply the basic principles of communication, motivation, problem solving, decision making, and the management process to accomplish their organization’s mission and goals.

Legal Aspects of the Fire Service: Cost: $25 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 14)

The class is structured so as to help you understand the general legal ramifications of your office, as well as your fire department's basic operations. Decisions are made, at the scene of an emergency, not only by officers but by non-officers as well, and these decisions will be subject to close scrutiny, if a law suit is ultimately filed by some unhappy third party. In this day and age one must be able to protect oneself on the fire ground legally, as well as physically. Each individual enrolled should bring a copy of his Standard Operating Procedures, the department's By-laws and the department's Constitution.

This course is an in-depth study of the laws with which fire police, fire departments and the municipality are jointly involved. This includes

NICS-Incident Command System for the Fire Service: Cost: $25 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18)

Incident command is a concept given considerable attention within the fire service. This course will help students recognize the importance of an effective management system and understand the various components that provide the basis for that system. The requirements necessary to make the system functional will be discussed. With DHS assistance in providing and mandating a single ICS, this Nation's emergency response personnel will move in the direction of greater management harmony, which will ensure much more effective management of America's major emergencies. Principles of Building Construction: Combustible Materials: Cost: $25

The overall goal of this course is to provide knowledge about the classification system of buildings, the importance of fire resistance for structural support elements, and the risks associated with performing fire-suppression activities inside and around buildings involved in fire. One additional major goal of this course is to enhance the skills of emergency response personnel so that they can read a building correctly and apply the information to the action plan for the incident.This course is intended for fire response personnel.

This course provides the fire fighter with an introduction to basic pump construction and theory as well as operating techniques. Emphasis is placed on getting water to the pump, getting water from the pump for hose streams, and prevention of common mistakes in pump operations.

This course will provide the student with a review and application of the techniques used in safe fire fighting practices in an actual fire environment. Emphasis is placed on safety for both interior and exterior operations.

Structural Collapse Operations: Level 1: Cost: Free (3.5 Hours, Minimum Age: 14)

This course gives the first responder the knowledge necessary to function effectively during the initial stages of a structural collapse incident. Assessing the magnitude of the situation, utilization of available resources, as well as personnel safety are highly stressed. Information necessary for first responders to integrate effectively with specialized collapse rescue teams is also provided.

Truck Company Operations 1: Cost: $50 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18)
Truck companies, regardless of whether they arrive on an aerial device, squad, or engine, are the ‘combat engineers’ of fire attack operations. This course, for experienced fire fighters, will introduce the student to the basic concept of truck company operations and duties, including organizing the delivery of truck company services, selection and use of key tools, advanced ventilation and forcible entry theory and practices, search and rescue, and other fire attack support functions.

Truck Company Operations 2: Cost: $100 (16 Hours, Minimum Age: 18)
This course will allow the student to practice and further refine his/her ability to effectively and safely perform the fire ground duties normally assigned to truck companies.

Water Rescue Awareness: Cost: Free (3 Hours, Minimum Age: 14)
This program discusses the characteristics of water-related emergencies and the health and safety risks of First Responders. This program addresses the common hazards associated with water rescue emergencies, as well as, the First Responder’s initial role, on-scene responsibilities, and Responder limitations. During this program, students are introduced to important safety procedures related to weather exposure and physiological conditions, near drowning, personal protective equipment, including PFD (personal Floatation Devices), and initial action plan development for water rescue emergencies will also be presented in this program.
